John Sheppard bit into his slice of somewhat cold pizza, savoring its taste. It had been over a year since he'd last tasted a truly delicious slice of pepperoni-and-sausage-topped pizza pie. This particular slice had no toppings other than a rather gritty cheese, but John was happy all the same. It was lukewarm, for he had heated it up in the oven-like contraption Rodney McKay had begun running not so long after they had arrived on Atlantis. Due to a heated argument between Radek Zalenka and McKay that John had been forced to break up, his slice of gooey delicious pizza had to be kept waiting and was thus lukewarm when he finally was able to eat it.
The Daedalus, due to popular request from the Atlantis crew, had brought several dozen pizzas on its last trip to Atlantis. A good half of them had already mysteriously disappeared (John suspected Elizabeth), but he had been sure to claim a slice for himself to enjoy on an afternoon that wasn't crammed with the stress of fighting the Wraith.
The sun hung over Atlantis, making the city shine beautifully as the sea reflected onto the tall towers. John leaned back against the railing on the deck that extended from the indoor cafeteria to out over the sea and watched as Doctor Carson Beckett talked to Lieutenant Cadman. They were smiling slightly as they both forked their fresh salads into their mouth, and Cadman laughed lightly.
A few tables away, John noticed a sulky-looking McKay pick at what looked like Atlantis's infamous mystery stew. Every so often, McKay would glance half-heartedly at Beckett and Cadman, and then look back into his bowl, his eyes narrowed at what seemed to be a small carrot.
John grinned at this and was about to take another bite of his now completely cold pizza when he saw Teyla enter the cafeteria. She nodded hello to someone and then looked up and saw John standing on the deck. He waved her over to join him. She smiled slightly and walked through the large cafeteria, her eyes cast down slightly. When she reached him, he grinned, "Ever had pizza?"
She looked at him, puzzled, "I do not believe so, Colonel."
He sighed and raised his half-eaten slice of pizza to eye level, "This, Teyla, is mankind's greatest invention. Delicious dough, homemade tomato sauce, and a mound of cheese piled on top... preferably with pepperoni and sausage to top it off."
Teyla raised her eyebrows slightly and he looked at her expectantly, rather pleased with his dramatic speech.
"Forgive me, Colonel, but that does not look..." she hesitated, frowning at the slice of pizza, "Appetizing."
His face fell slightly as he tried to comprehend someone thinking pizza was unappetizing. He shook his head and lowered the slice of pizza with a small sigh, "Try it. Just a bite, I swear you'll love it."
She looked rather hesitant in taking a bite of the slice, but he held out the pizza to her, his eyes suggesting quietly that she take a small bite; after all, who doesn't enjoy pizza?
She took the pizza he held out so eagerly and cautiously took a small bite. Her eyes widened and she quickly swallowed. John watched her, waiting for a reaction.
"That is... delicious, Colonel," Teyla said gratefully, handing him what was left of the slice. He shook his head, grinning a little wider.
"You have the rest," he said as a breeze ruffled Teyla's hair slightly. He leaned on his elbows against the railing and his eyes shone warmly as Teyla smiled appreciatively, taking another generous bite of the pizza that John had put so much effort into saving for himself.
